The Grizzly Bear (*Ursus arctos horribilis*) in the contigious united states are currently being protected under the endangered species act. there are only 1500 of them left in 48 states and only about 38000 in alasks. subspecies of the brown bear found in North America.(Gallagher, 2020)

these species can be easliy distinguished by their ears, they possess rounder and smaller ears, while having a more rounder and concave facial profile. Due to overhunting and habitat loss, these bears have lost 98% of their historic range, according to the national wildlife federation. as humans began to settle in north america they killed a large number of them for self protection, for food and for their hides as well.(Gallagher, 2020)

by the time they placed as an endangered species in 1975, they were amost completely wiped out with only about, 2% of them remaining. there are multipe organiztions fighting for their survival, with natiuonal wildlife organization establishing the adopt-a-wildife-acre program to expand the range of these grizzlies.(Gallagher, 2020)
